Responding to the call of our alumni of planning closer towards the initiatives, communities and lives of our network members throughout the world, during the month of February 2020, the Global Alumni Initiative (GAI) program director, Eliana Jimeno, visited India and Nepal to launch the program’s localized approach.

In an effort to provide a space for reconnection and common learning through new tools and resources, an alumni-focused training took place on February 13-14, in Kathmandu, Nepal. The training on Heart-Centered Approaches to Peacebuilding: Principles for Addressing Humanitarian Crisis was co-facilitated by Bruna Kadletz (Brazil) MSc in Sociology and Global Change from the University of Edinburgh, with a focus on forced displacement and climate change. During the training, the documentary "My land lives in Me" by Kadletz was screened and discussed by the participants.

In total, 5 members of the Alumni Network participated in the workshop, alongside 7 members of two organizations they collaborate with which advance peacebuilding and development and work in Nepal, linked to stop cast-based discrimination, PasaYard and Samata Foundation

By opening the program’s training opportunities to alumni and their partner organization, the Global Alumni Initiative seeks to further support the work our alumni do within and beyond the IofC network as a means to amplify the energy and activity of the alumni through small, local yet powerful actions and increase global connections.

In addition to the Nepal visit, the GAI program director had a meeting with some members of the Nepal alumni who were at Asia Plateau participating in the IofCI International Conference at Asia Plateau, Towards a Humane World. The conversation focused on their work on Restorative Justice in Nepal, the founding of IofC Nepal and their plans to expand the team in the country, to make the activities and decision making more participatory and gender inclusive by actively opening space to female alumna.
