Bringing this event back for a third year, I am honored that our museum partners are just as excited as we are to engage our community in thoughtful, collaborative ways. So much of IofC’s work is centered on expanding perspectives, elevating understanding, and engaging in much needed conversation that inspires action and drives progress. I am excited our Intersecting History partners are continuing to help us build an infrastructure of understanding and build space to explore essential elements of our history.

This year’s theme is “Yes She Can!” and begins with a candid conversation celebrating women on the frontlines of arts, culture and the modern day freedom movement. The community conversation is open to the public and will take place January 25th, at 6 p.m. at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture. Attendees will be able to hear a panel of outstanding women leaders discuss how women continue to be on the frontlines of arts, culture and the modern-day freedom movement. The participants will have a meaningful discussion about how women are engaged and leading the way in confronting complex histories and using our past to inform, shape and improve our shared future.

The Museum Crawl follows on January 28th, from noon to 5 p.m. Richmonders will be able to visit the 7 area museums free of charge, experience the stories of Virginia women, especially women of color, while exploring exhibitions and gaining a more inclusive understanding of our city’s history. Charter buses will offer rides between museums at no cost to attendees, thanks in part to sponsorship from Richmond Region Tourism.

"Providing multiple venues where Richmonders can come together to celebrate the contributions of women throughout our history, grapple with difficult subjects, and engage with one another are critical parts of how we serve the community," the participating museums said in a joint statement. “The 3rd Annual Intersecting History Museum Crawl & Conversation sets the stage for individuals and families to come away with a better understanding of the place they call home, and we are honored to be a part of a program that can have such a transformative impact.”
