It is more than fitting to have Daymé Arocena and Pablo Dewin to usher some forthcoming reflection time for La Ceiba.  The magical Ceiba Tree lines the streets of Havana, including a revered one in the city center,  a site of contemplation and petitions among the Cuban people, and visitors from around the world.

Their presence at La Ceiba Festival can be summed up with the Yoruba words, “Ashe” and “Alaase.”    Together, their beautiful personal and professional partnership will evoke power, command and control of their creative spirits (Ashe) and summon the life force to effect the change that we seek (Alaase).   Daymé’s soul-stirring voice and presence, and Pablo’s visionary work as a multi-media visual artist, will interpret songs from Daymé’s  current album “SONOCARDIOGRAM,” which she describes as “a journey through her own life history.”  This presentation is produced by ALAFIAfilms, founded Daymé and Pablo.

Daymé is a Grammy-Nominated, JUNO Award-Winning composer, singer and choral director.   Her voice evokes comparisons to Celia Cruz and Aretha Franklin, and is described as “one of Cuba’s finest young jazz singers.”

Pablo’s work can be found from photojournalism to international art exhibitions, including in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with Brazilian artists Lucas Gervilla and Rodrigo Contijo in the “Casa Galeria” a commentary on deconstruction across Latin America.
