Application Requirements:
Selection for the program is based on the applicant’s commitment to social transformation and their demonstrated ability to effect a positive in whichever field and region they have been active in. We are particularly interested in candidates with a substantial track record of impactful contributions in various social contexts.
To complete the application, we require the applicants to submit a completed application form along with two (2) recommendation letters, academic transcripts and any other records that attest to their active role and commitment to the field of change-making.
Please note that the program is conducted entirely in English. This includes the readings, discussions, and group activities. We require the participants to demonstrate an intermediate level of English proficiency, sufficient to actively engage in all aspects of the program.
A non-refundable fee of $25 is required for a complete application to be considered for admission. This fee can be paid through this link. Tuition Fee:
The total tuition for the program is 1800 USD, to be paid in full before the program begins.
Scholarship:
Scholarships are available on need-basis and merit-basis. Applicants must mention demonstrated need and strong merit to apply. IofC USA will strive to match the amount the participants raise to support in their fund-raising effort.
The Kathy Aquilina Scholarship is our full scholarship support awarded to support one participant toward their tuition fee. The applicant must be a national citizen of a country affected by present-day civil or armed conflict. Please note that candidates with dual nationality or permanent residency in a western country do not qualify for this scholarship. Active engagement in creating peace and mitigating conflict is required.
Program Experience: What to Expect
The Caux Scholars Program in Brazil will be an enriching and transformative educational experience for aspiring advocates of peace. You will be joining a vibrant group of participants hailing from various countries and bringing unique perspectives to the program. As believers of collaborative learning, we encourage participants to work closely with their peers on projects, case studies and simulations in the classroom. Our aim is to foster an environment conducive to building global networks that will extend beyond the duration of the program. The Community that you cultivate during your academic stay will serve as a foundation for your future endeavours in social transformation, providing support and collaborative opportunities.
Academic Integrity:
As selected participants, your sincere participation will be crucial to the program’s success as well as the collective growth of your cohort. The collaborative nature of our learning process means that every scholar’s engagement directly impacts the experience of their peers. We expect everyone to approach the program with diligence and a sense of responsibility to both yourself and your fellow participants. Your active involvement in discussions and all shared activities are mandatory for the complete program experience for all. Failing to attend more than 5 classes will result in disqualification from the program. Furthermore, disqualified participants will be liable to pay the scholarship support provided, if any.
FAQ
What type of visa do I need for the program?
Participants are responsible for obtaining the appropriate visa for entry into Brazil. A VIVIS (Visit Visa) is typically required for educational trips lasting up to 90 days. We will provide a selection letter to support your visa application. Please research any specific/additional requirements based on your country of origin to make are necessary arrangements ahead of time.
Is there a language requirement for the program?
As the program is conducted in English, it is expected that participants have an intermediate proficiency in the language to be able to participate in discussions and class activities.
Are there opportunities for networking with local professionals or organizations?
Yes, the program includes networking events and field visits to relevant local institutions. These opportunities are designed to enhance your learning experience and professional connections.
Are there any health and safety precautions I should be aware of?
The safety of all our participants and staff is of utmost importance to us. It is generally advisable that participants are up-to-date on routine vaccinations such as MMR, diphtheria, tetanus, varicella, polio, and influenza. We also recommend getting the updated COVID-19 vaccine before travelling. In addition, we recommend that you bring any necessary personal medications along with a basic first-aid kit. Please consult with your healthcare provider regarding any specific medical needs before travelling.
Does the tuition cost include travel and transportation costs?
You are responsible for your travel to and from Brazil. Do not make any arrangements until you receive an acceptance letter from us. You will also need to take care of the internal transport from the airport to Porto Alegro. You will receive all the detailed travel instructions closer to the travel date.
What are the accommodation and meal arrangements like?
All participants will be provided with accommodation on a twin-sharing basis. The housing location will be equipped with all necessary amenities such as bedding, towels, laundry, and high speed internet. Toiletries are not provided. The program also covers three meals a day, along with coffee and snacks. Special dietary needs can be arranged on case to case basis.
Is there free time built into the program schedule?
Yes, the program includes designated time for reflection, personal exploration, and rest.
Can I arrive early or stay after the program ends?
The accommodation arrangements will be available through the program duration only.
Any additional stay arrangements and food expenses will have to be taken care of by you.
Can I arrive later than the program start date or leave before the graduation?
No. It is mandatory to arrive before the induction and make your departure arrangements only after the program graduation.
Is travel insurance required for participants?
While not mandatory, we highly recommend that all participants obtain travel insurance to cover any unforeseen medical expenses during their stay in Brazil. However for certain countries, an insurance might be mandatory to board the plane. It is advisable to read more about what applies best for specific cases.
Are there opportunities for post-program engagement?
Yes, as scholars graduating from the CSP, you will be a part of our larger circle of the Global Alumni Initiative (GAIN). The network offers ongoing opportunities for collaboration and continued learning.
